WEATHER & ENVIRONMENT
Our gathering will be at beautiful Camp Keanae, on the tropical side of Maui. Check out the photo gallery HERE to
get an idea of the beauty and majesty of this special meeting place which we have been coming to for our Spring and Fall camps for over 25 years.
We are within walking distance of the ocean and several fresh water pools and waterfalls. Please be aware that the ocean is very rough on the east side of Maui. If you wish to go swimming in the ocean, we strongly suggest that you go with others who are familiar with the area and to use fins and a mask.
Camp Keanae is situated on a bluff overlooking the ocean and can be warm in the day, cool (not cold) in the night and early morning, as well as intermittently windy and rainy. The temperatures range from 65 - 85 degrees.
At times the humidity can be quite high.
CAMP KEANAE ACCOMODATIONS
Indoor sleeping is in shared dorms with bunk beds, and you will need to bring your own bedding and pillow, and if you wish, a mosquito net. There are two separate women's dorms in addition to the co-ed dorms and they are generally crowded with 24 bunk beds in each room, and very little space between.
There are two bath/shower houses with separate sections for men and women.
If you prefer privacy, we recommend that you bring a tent. All campers must be self reliant in regards to your camping set-up. We encourage that you do a practical trial run with all your equipment and have a check list of the equipment that you will need to have prior to coming to camp to ensure that you are fully prepared. We also ask that the more experienced campers help out those who are less experienced, especially with tent placement (e.g., in
areas that won't get flooded in intense rain).
If you are using a tent, please be prepared for tropical rains and strong winds, which are quite common in Keanae. Have a high-quality tent with a fly good roof with
an overhang). Rain falling on the sides of a tent is the biggest cause of flooded floors. In lieu of a good fly, a separate tarp can be flown over the tent. This takes a little skill and requires some rope and poles and stakes.
(see our new Tent Set Up Service below). Also, tents with weak poles have been flattened by these over-tarps in heavy winds. Another tarp underneath
the tent can protect the tent's floor from abrasion and keep moisture from wicking up. Make sure that this bottom tarp is completely tucked under the tent; any bit of tarp that shows can catch rain and create puddles under the
tent. Or put this tarp inside the bottom of your tent.
Also be sure to include a mattress, futon, pad or cot to assure that you sleep well. For our off-island campers, mattresses can be provided. Please let us know in advance if a mattress is needed.
NEW TENT SET UP SERVICE
For a fee of $40.00 we will have an experienced crew help set up your tent, rain fly and tarps to help assure you will be dry and comfortable. Tarps and mattress will be provided. For our off island campers, there will be a few tents available to use, with reservations made in advance and a $20.00 fee, which we use to purchase additional tents for future camps.
WHAT TO BRING
Bring a yoga mat (if you have a daily yoga practice), cushion or floor chair, bedding, alarm clock, toiletries, two towels, flashlight with extra sunglasses, bug
repellent, earplugs, a notepad and pen, a water bottle(s) with your name on it, and snacks, musical instrument, and drum (optional). This is not meant to imply that you will be able to sit in with the musician's circle during dances and zikar.
Be prepared for a variety of weather changes. Bring rain gear, perhaps a windbreaker, an umbrella and some warmer clothing for the evenings and early mornings. Other items to include are sandals, crocks or boots, walking shoes
for hikes and plenty of cool clothing such as shorts, dresses, skirts and lightweight shirts. Keep in mind that you will need comfortable clothing that serves you well in both sitting and moving.
You might want a sarong to wear for the Healing Temple and showers. Bring something a little dressier for our evenings if you wish. Evening programs in general are a fun time to dress up in accordance with your creative
inclinations.
If you live on Maui, we suggest that you bring your own plate, bowl and utensils for Thursday night dinner and Friday breakfast as we start to pack up our dishes on Thursday afternoon. Disposable plates and utensils will be available, too.
HEALING TEMPLE
We will have a Healing Temple for bodywork at a reasonable price by licensed practitioners in a variety of modalities such as: lomi lomi, deep tissue and
other types of massage, including traditional Thai Massage, chiropractic and acupuncture. If you are interested in participating in the Healing Temple as
a qualified body worker, (Hawaiian license and insurance are required)

ART & CRAFT FAIRE
There will be a one time Craft Faire on Sunday afternoon, May 16th, where eclectic items from around the world will be for sale. If you want to sell your goods we ask that you tithe 10% of your sales to our camp fund.
All merchants must register before Sunday, May 16th, to secure your space. To sell at this venue you must attend camp, at least for the weekend. Please note that you are responsible for providing a table or whatever you need for your own personal display.

information regarding the Craft Faire contact:

SILENT AUCTION
We invite you to participate in our Silent Auction by either donating
something of value, or by bringing extra money to bid on an item of your
choice. The Silent Auction provides funds for our Jasmine Fry Peace Posse Youth Scholarship Program, and the equipment needs of the camp. Please bring
items you wish to share at the auction, or possibly personal services of
bodywork, other healing modalities, or other services.
COMMUNITY DANCE AND ZIKR
Please help us get the word out about the Community Zikr on Saturday evening,
May 22nd, at 7:15 pm at The Makawao Union Church Hall on Baldwin Ave.
between Paia and Makawao. This is when our camp has its first reunion to
share the energy of the camp with our larger community of friends and family
who were unable to join us at camp, featuring teachers and musicians from
camp. Due to church rules, please leave your children and pets at home and
please don't park in front of the Hall.
CAR RENTAL INFORMATION
If you plan to use the Camp Shuttle to and from camp you won't need to rent a car. Otherwise, most major rental companies have outlets on Maui. It is
wise to reserve your rentals well in advance. If you would like to save a little money and rent a used car, contact:
